Meet Our Team:

Margaret began her accounting career at a local large regional firm in 1987. She joined Paul, Cox & Todd PLLC in 2005 to work with her husband David who is also a CPA and founding member of the firm. Margaret has a wide range of experience providing accounting and tax services to privately owned companies in manufacturing, construction, healthcare, retail and professional service industries. She enjoys assisting business owners with accounting systems setup, financial reporting as well as tax planning and compliance. Outside of the office Margaret enjoys spending time with her family, watching Carolina basketball and working with the youth and music programs at her church.

David has been working with small businesses and their owners in northwest North Carolina for over 35 years. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Having worked at a large regional accounting firm for over 15 years, he was a founding member of Paul, Cox & Todd PLLC in 1999. David enjoys a hands-on approach to helping clients with their accounting needs including design and setup of accounting systems, monthly accounting assistance and financial reporting, as well as business and individual tax planning and compliance. David enjoys spending family time at the lake, and serving at his church and at other faith-based non-profit organizations.

Chris joined Paul, Cox & Todd PLLC in 2019 after working at a large, regional firm for over nine years. His career has been tax-focused and he has extensive experience in working with privately-held businesses as well as with business owners and their trusts, gifts, and estates. He has worked with businesses in the retail, manufacturing and distribution, real estate, and service industries. Chris strives to be a trusted advisor for his clients by partnering with and helping them meet and exceed their personal and financial goals. In addition to working closely with his clients, Chris has concentrated in complex individual tax situations and issues and has been a firm-wide resource on individual taxation. Outside of work, Chris loves spending time with his family, serving at his church, and playing golf.

James has nearly 30 years of experience in public and private accounting.  With a background in auditing and private accounting, James has spent the last 19 years in the tax world working with small businesses and individuals to meet their tax compliance and consulting needs.  While he has clients in a variety of industries, he serves a large number in the service industries, particularly in the professional services area.  He has extensive experience in working with partnership ownership changes and the related IRC Section 754 basis step-ups as well as with hedge fund reporting and disclosures for his high wealth individual clients.  James enjoys golfing, genealogy and spending time with his wife and four kids.  They especially enjoy taking road trips each summer visiting national parks and other sites of interest. 

Elizabeth has been in the accounting profession since 2005. She graduated from Furman University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting, and then earned a Master of Professional Accountancy with a concentration in Taxation from Clemson University in 2005. She worked at Ernst & Young in New Orleans before joining Paul, Cox & Todd PLLC in 2014. Elizabeth enjoys tax compliance for individuals and small businesses and is licensed as a CPA in North Carolina. When she is not in the office, Elizabeth is spending time with her husband, who is lead pastor at REVO Church, and their two daughters.

Nick joined Paul, Cox & Todd PLLC in 2020 after working at a large, regional firm for two years. He is from the small town of East Bend, North Carolina and has his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in accounting from Appalachian State University. His favorite sport is football, with Appalachian State and the Carolina Panthers being his two favorite teams. He enjoys an active lifestyle of hiking and fishing and he loves being active in his community in Yadkin County, NC.

Mary Margaret has been in the accounting profession since 2020. She graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting, and then earned a Master of Professional Accountancy from Auburn University in 2018. She worked at Morgan Stanley in Winston-Salem before joining Paul, Cox & Todd PLLC. Mary Margaret loves spending time with her husband, Johnson, and their daughter, Evelyn. She enjoys baking, watching the Gamecocks play football, spending time at Lake Norman with her family, serving at her church especially with the youth group, and grabbing coffee with friends at the Coffee Mill in Lewisville.

Bailey came to Paul, Cox & Todd PLLC in 2021. She is a native of Advance, NC and graduated with her Bachelors of Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned a Master of Science in Accounting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2022. She loves spending time with her husband, Josh, and her cat, Charlie and two dogs, Andy and Max. She enjoys rooting for the Tarheels, spending time with family and friends, and serving in her church. Her favorite hobbies include baking, hiking, spending time at the beach, and DIY-ing projects in her house with her husband.

Kayla joined Paul, Cox & Todd PLLC in 2022 as an intern and will join us full time as a Tax Associate in August of 2024. She is from Kernersville, North Carolina and graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting with a minor in Finance and Banking. Additionally, she will complete her Master of Science in Accountancy from Appalachian State University in 2024. In her free time, she loves spending time with her family and her puppy River, being active outdoors, and watching college sports.

Caroline came to Paul, Cox & Todd PLLC in 2022. She is a native of Boonville, NC and graduated from Guilford College in 2021. Caroline enjoys working with people and is excited to help clients in any way she can! She is currently continuing her education at Liberty University and is pursuing a Masters in Accounting as well as planning a wedding with her fiancé, Christian. Caroline is a lover of all things country music, Carolina basketball, and enjoys spending time with her friends and family and her dog Cash, who is named after her favorite musician, Johnny Cash. Some of her favorite hobbies include baking, crafting, and attending concerts.

Betty came to Paul, Cox, & Todd PLLC in 2017. She is a native of Virginia and worked extensively in the banking industry for over 40 years. She has also served as the Minister of Youth at Ardmore Baptist Church (Winston-Salem, NC) and Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church (Bassett, VA). She enjoys going to the beach with her friends and continues to mentor many of her former students.
